2C: Management of Instructional groups

Proficient Descriptor - Small-group work is well organized, and most students are productively engaged in learning while unsupervised by the teacher.
Observation: The students are on-task in their expert groups, little supervision is needed.

2B: Expectations for learning and achievement
Proficient Descriptor – Instructional outcomes, activities and assignments, and classroom interactions convey high expectations for most students.

*Observation: Mrs. B explains that the best essay will be published in the school’s newspaper.

2B: Student pride in work
Proficient Descriptor - Students accept the teacher’s insistence on work of high quality and demonstrate pride in that work.

*Observation: Students proudly show their science fair project during the science fair.

2E: Arrangement of furniture and use of physical resource
Proficient Descriptor - Teacher uses physical resources skillfully, and the furniture arrangement is a resource for
learning activities.

Observation: Students are able focus in their silent reading because the desk and chairs have tennis balls on each leg.

2A: Teacher interaction with students
Proficient Descriptor - Teacher-student interactions are friendly and demonstrate general caring and respect. Such interactions are appropriate to the age and cultures of the students. Students exhibit respect for the teacher.
Observation: Students and teacher have a fun discussion about their Spring Break.

Observation/Artifact: Students and teacher discuss what it takes to become student of the week (rubric and grade requirements).

Observation: Students show respect to everyone’s opinion in a class debate on cloning.

Observation/Artifact: Students agree to abide to the class’ rules and duties by signing a contract.

learning activities.

Observation: Students desks are organized into a horseshoe setting for a social studies trivia quiz.
